Cisco / Juniper emulation and the like
by curious on Apr.26, 2008, under Technology
If you are Studying for your CCIE/CCNA/JNCIA or just want to play with / test out routers (and in Cisco’s case, firewalls too).. here are some useful links:
Cisco Router emulation, Dynamips, found here: www.ipflow.utc.fr/index.php/Cisco_7200_Simulator
Cisco PIX emulation, Pemu, found here: www.blindhog.net/category/pemu/
Cisco ASA emulation: howto stuff can be found here: 7200emu.hacki.at/viewforum.php?f=17
If you thought the ability to emulate Cisco hardware was awsome… check out GNS3!
GNS3 is a Grapical Network Simulator that alows you to quickly design/setup/run networks using dynamips and pemu… it rocks!
As for Juniper, there is “Non-existent” Olive, I have not tested this out yet btw:

UPDATE: detailed step-by-step instructions for QEMU/JEMU solution on XP: brokenpipes.blogspot.com/2008/01/olive-is-alive.html
For those that want to play with with network topologies/protocols/technologies without needing to get proprietary software, check out Netkit:
